What About My Coffee?

Person Performing Coffee ArtI have shared a lot about tea on this blog (which makes sense since it is a tea and yoga blog.) But I am also a true lover of coffee. So I thought maybe it is time to share some information about coffee. Don’t worry I’m not talking about the negative affects of it right now  we already  know that too much coffee is bad for you do to the caffeine, but when not abused coffee has a number of health benefits.

Burning fat. Drinking coffee can help you lose weight. Some studies have shown that drinking coffee can boost your metabolism .   I would like to point out that if you are trying to lose weight cut back on the cream and sugar in your coffee.

A single cup of coffee contains:

  • Riboflavin (vitamin B2): 11% of the Reference Daily Intake (RDI).
  • Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5): 6% of the RDI.
  • Manganese and potassium: 3% of the RDI.
  • Magnesium and niacin (vitamin B3): 2% of the RDI.

Ways to make your coffee healthier

Try Other Sweeteners. I have actually tried honey in my coffee and was pleasantly surprised and it has a pleasant taste, however if you do not like the taste of honey this wont work for you. Honey mixes smoothly with vanilla flavoring.

Strawberry Beside Spoon of Sugar If you still rather have real sugar try opting for raw sugar  and avoid the artificial stuff at all cost. Some people like using Stevia which is a plant based sweetener. I personal do not like the taste but I know of many others who use it in their coffee and it works for them. Stevia is 100 to 300 times sweeter than your regular  table sugar, but  it has no carbohydrates, calories, or artificial ingredients. Close-Up Photo of Almonds Near Milk

Almond, soy, and low fat. If your goal is to cut down on dairy products try substituting your cream and milk with almond milk, soy milk or low fat milk.

Drink water. Coffee acts as a diuretic  and will cause your body to expel water and valuable salts. This means that you should’t drink coffee if you are dehydrated. Keep enough water in your body your body will thank you.
